FIPs & OpenSSL: what will the security checkbox vendors do?

I am watching the OpenBSD community tear down and build up OpenSSL.    I have to say, the comments are enlightening and entertaining.

remove FIPS mode support. people who require FIPS can buy something that meets their needs, but dumping it in here only penalizes the rest of us. ok miod

I am curious to see the fall out in the security checkbox vendors space.  Many vendors rely on OpenSSL's FIPS 140 compliance to sell to .gov entities.
